    C**t-face ass-wipes of a company

I had a problem a while ago with a domain. I paid my invoice, but my domain registrar forgot to renew the domain.

The domain went into "retrieval" or something like that, somehow meaning that I couldn't buy it back until a certain date. I checked once or twice a week for the domain to become available.

The company bought me mydomain.org until the .com was available again.

    Today, I got an email.
Recently, mydomain.com expired and went into a
domain name auction. We acquired it and, since you
own the .org version of this domain name, we
wanted to provide you with the opportunity to own the
    preferred .com version.
Our company specializes in recovering preferred expiring
domains and either selling them to individuals such as
yourself or building out our own web presence on those
    valuable domains.

Why would an Organization or Non-profit want the .com
    version of a domain?

    * .Com is the strongest brand on the internet. When people
think of a website, they intuitively think '.com'. Odds are
people trying to get to your website are inadvertently going
to watchfresh.com because they assume that's where they
    can find you.

    * Owning the .com can help you protect your organization's
    reputation....

It may sound far fetched at first, but only a few years ago the
domain name WhiteHouse.com was a site littered with
pornography. Imagine users surprise when they wanted
to find out about White House tours and end up seeing
the offensive material there. (Since then, someone else
bought the site and took down the offensive material)

The last thing you'd want to happen is for someone
to build a website at mydomain.com which contains
    negative or even offensive content.

Please understand, I'm not saying that this WILL happen
if you don't buy the domain. Odd are that it will NOT happen.
But, if you're interested in securing your reputation I strongly
encourage you to consider buying the .com today.

If you'd like to own you can buy it
now by covering our acquisition costs and a modest profit.

If you have any interest I encourage you to act quickly
because this domain name will only be offered for sale
    for a limited time.

If you want no more messages, go to http://lbcdomains.com/
Their "modest profit" sets the domain at $557. **** that.

Is there anything I can do? I'm so pissed right now. I've emailed this company, iTime Marketing on a few email addresses - but no reply. I can't really afford to be making international calls and I doubt it'll get my anywhere.

Via GoDaddy, you could have backordered it. I had to do that for my own damn *.com that Register.com allowed to go while I was overseas for one extra day - they expired it, and sold it at 1 minute past midnight on the day of it's expiration, did not hold it for me in the least for not even 8 hours... just 1 minute.

Anyway, I no longer use Register.com because of that situation, and it took me 6 ****ing years to get my *.com back. But it cost me only 18.95 USD to get it. And a lot of patience.

In this situation, this person speculated that you'd want it. Patience will whittle down that price. Or he'll sell it to some harvester and throw up some ads on it.

You could low-ball him to death, ignore this person, or... try to rationalize with this person.

I'd do something else... like backorder it, and see if you could swipe it in a year.

did they take the money you paid them for the .com initially?

if so i believe you are owed some serious cash, what you paid initially + interest + loss of buisness expenses + lawyer fees.

If the fault is with the registrar shouldn't they be the ones that take the hit on getting the domain back?

What's funny is that registrars petitioned congress to make it a law under a guise to protect domain name owners from everyday scam artists.

Apparently Congress felt that giving registrars that type of control wouldn't go to thier heads.
