Another fairly basic problem ... but I can't get my Flash site to center in the browser window.
My 'publishing settings' (in Flash) are set to define size by actual pixels; HTML alignment is set to "default" and Flash alignment is set to "centered," both horiztonally and vertically.
The dimensions are 700x400 and my monitor is 1024x768. I open the movie in my browser and it always appears in the upper lefthand corner.
I've tried playing with different settings, and I've even edited the html file in Dreamweaver to specify "absolute center" as the desired browser alignment. This has no effect.
What am I overlooking?

there may be an easier way, but i ususally put my flash movies in a table and center the table. have you tried that?
-
No, I haven't tried that. Could you explain how, or provide a good link? All I've worked with is Flash; I've never used tables. Thanks.

this html will put a flash movie in a table that is centered in the brower:
Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>sample</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
</head>
<body bgcolor="#FFFFFF" text="#000000">
<table width="310" border="0" height="220" align="center">
<tr>
<td><object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=5,0,0,0" width="735" height="555">
<param name=movie value="yourMovie.swf">
<param name=quality value=high>
<embed src="file:///D|/My%20Secondary%20Documents/Photos/bodyshots/kathy%20ann/beta.swf" quality=high pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="735" height="555">
</embed>
</object></td>
</tr>
</table>
</body>
</html>
copy and paste it into dreamweaver and you should be able to see the table in the design mode. change the table height and width to match your movie (700x400 in your case) or set them to 100% to have the movie automatically resize. (although, i dont think NS6 likes that...)

That seems to help ... thanks. If anyone has any alternate methods or other ideas though ... by all means.

Yeah ... I did that though. It mysteriously has no effect. <Shrug.>

[in dreamweaver]
Aside from changing the default to "middle"
click anywhere next to the flash movie, so you get the blinking insertion point right next to the swf, now, go to your property window, and click on "align center" icon. (It looks like the "CENTER" tool in Microsoft Word)
it should align your movie to the center of your browser.
If that still didn't work........
Create a Table first, and then align the table to the center of the screen, insert the swf into the talbe, and change teh table border to zero... OH wait, the other guy already suggested this method...
Hrm... okay, i'm out of ideas...sorry...
Here are some links that might help you with your situation:

put the tag "<center>" before embedding the swf an close it again afterwards "</center>"
looks something like this:
<center><OBJECT classid=[...]</OBJECT></center>
-
go to your publish settings and to "html" and change the demensions to percent!

Is there a way to center the movie both horizontally and _vertically_? Meaning that it will center in the browser window no matter what screen resolution or window size you use?
-
center for all screen res
In reply to hurvinek, make your table 100% wide, and 100% high.

Re: center for all screen res
Thanks, now it works perfectly.

different results
hi,
I used the method which we change to percent mode(qbol) .Ýt works for some movies but for some others it doesn't.The first movie was 800*500,it is now centered.But my second movie which is 350*235 is still there on the left up corner.All settings are same for both 2 movies but result is different why???
Thanks for your help.

Having the same Problem
Check out my site, I have posted my swf file (embedded in an html doc created in dreamweaver) at www.swaddlecouture.com/site_flash, but no matter what I do, I cannot get the movie to center (vertical and horizontal) in the browser window- it just stays at the top left corner. I tried putting it in a table (in dreamweaver it looks centered, but when i upload to ftp and try playing it, it is back to where it started).
Anybody have any ideas? I'm going crazy here!
