My first site: Feedback? Criticism?
hey guys,
i'm new to flash and I just went live with my first site. basically it's a simple portfolio site and of all my thumbnails, only one works right now as i'm working on more projects to add to my portfolio.

i would love to hear what people have to say. please, be honest!
thanks

I like it.
I really like the resume as PDF and the thumbnail of the resume.
I like the glow effect.
It looks good and loads very fast.
I'm not crazy about the color but it does work because it was very easy to read and the same dark gray background. That's just me.
On the contacts and resume and about....
I like the fact that it's not just a simple rollover that would close when the mouse is moved and the window/panel stays open but did you think about have the current panel close automatically when you open a new one?
Example: If I open About it would close once I open Contact.
It's very good as is but the color and the closing of the panels/windows are just the two things that got me.

hey hidef1080, thanks a lot for the feedback, i really appreciate it.
as far as color goes, do you have any suggestions? i'm not totally stuck on the blue so it would be helpful to hear what others think for color.
i agree 100% about making one panel close when another is opened however, since i'm still new to all this, i'm not really sure as to how i would do it.
thanks again for the help!

The color thing is totally subjective so don't change it because of my opinion.
I do like the fact that it doesn't use the “standard” dark gray so it stands out without looking tacky or “the same old, same old”.
The important thing is that it is easy to read and the contrast of color works to that end.
The site looks very professional and that's the bottom line.
On making one panel close when you open a new one I'm not 100% sure but I know there has to be someone here that could point you in the right direction.
You have some good work there......
Cool?

.:Build for Design:.
Hi, you realy should make a email form instead of link to mailto: because that looks way more pro then this. Your movie is now centered left top. It would be cooler if you centered your movie in your window. Besides that your website does everything it needs to be doing and I kinda like the colorscheme got some potential :P Good luck!

thanks for the response kdesign1, it's much appreciated. Would you suggest a PHP email form? When you say my movie is centered at left top do you mean on the landing page or when you click on the thumbnails?
-
.:Build for Design:.
Yeah php email form should do the trick, must be some tutorials here on flashkit or google some. You should center the whole movie in your browser, looks more cool.

The site should be centered no question (vertically and horizontally). Also, how about some space between the thumbs?

thanks guys. i've been able to center it horizontally after publishing by adding <center>, </center> tags in the HTML page outside of the <body> tag however, I don't know how to vertically center. Any suggestions? Thanks!

For centering horizantally and vertically:

Check out the first response (second post in thread ^^)
Also, if you're using SWFObject, you should take a look at this:

P.S.
In your Flash movie, make sure there isn't any blank space that is never being used. Your Flash Movie doesn't look centered to me in Firefox 2.
