If an athlete wants to endear people by being more charming, that's their perogative and there's nothing wrong with that. But, players like TO and Johnson, imo, make sports a lot more entertaining. We get something from their efforts. So, it seems fair and appropriate to me that they take some glory for themselves. It's not like we're judging how well they will fit into our families. We're judging some human being for their ability to perform some feat. It just seems fair to me that some of them make something of a farce out of the spectacle part of it.

I didn't know that Bolt didn't shake hands with competitors. I'm not a fan of that and agree that that is different. There's a difference I think between arrogrance/bravado and bad sportsmanship.

The good thing about arrogant athletes is watching their reaction when they get beat. Arrogance has it's downside.

Definitely. For instance, beating the French in the swimming relay wouldn't have been as good if they hadn't declared that they were going to "smash" us.

They've already yanked the tkd incident from youtube although a few have stills of the fighter kicking the ref.

I feel sorry for the ref but i think some of the Taekwondo judges deserved a good kicking, some of the hits they don't count are ridiculous. You see that British girl who clear as anything hoofed the other girl in the face? Foot drags across her face, head snaps back, classic action movie reaction yet zilch from the judges, what a joke. Same goes for the boxing, its been a disgrace.
