    good website size

    Hi,

come across a really good effect i want to put in a website but it's large in size, so it got me wondering what sort of file size people work to in their websites? i was thinking that a mainPage swf should be 100kb or less - does anyone else have a limit they work to?

it really depends on the audience and content. If you have a portfolio page for a video production company it's fine to have huge load times as people are expecting to see some cool stuff. A search engine site would need to load as quickly as possible.. Ultimately it varies wildly.

100kb is reasonable in most cases, but consider if the visitors are mainly on 56k connection. They will have to wait 20 seconds just for the main page to load at that size.

When starting a site ask yourself, who is the audience and how long will they comfortably wait for the content. A good rule is to go look at sites hosting similar content to see how they handle it.
