Is this still going on? It's not a political discussion, how come?

Everybody needs a break from reality... so we're in this delusional person's world now.

It's filled with huge pink fonts and visions of grandeur.

cant we restrict his account to black, 12 pt font? LOL

and seriously you're 48? And you wont show some of your work?

Thats just absurd...and rather childish. geez.. I bet if you search the arena..you can even find some of the design work I've done.. and I never claim to be a designer.

for shame on you man.. for shame.

Glad you shared it finally. Like I told you earlier- your photos are actually not too shabby. Now go shoot some more and come over to the photo forum and post.

Thanks. Umm, does that mean my design is shabby? I'm very new to photography. I already have a book cover published. They found my photo off of Flickr.

I noticed that a lot of your photos have comments and such. Did you just go around and add people as your conacts or how did you spread your stream around?

I am trying to get more exposure with my stream. I need #1 on explore!

to be honest.. I think your photo work is better than your design... but it seems 'solid' if lacking a little 'pizzaz'.

some stuff 'looks' to be dated... but some of your illustration seems to be fine..

I would call you bad.. id call it average..

You could definitely improve with some time spent here, looking at trends, and 'cool sites' may give you ideas/motivation on were to improve as well.

but for the most part..the e-cards (which you seem to have done many)..fit the bill..

I agree with whispers. The photography seems to be stronger. I'm certainly not the greatest in the world by no means so know I'm not trying to belittle you but it seems slightly gimmicky work. But, I know how it gets when you have deadlines and you have to do work that might now be towards your strong suit. I'd say the one thing I noticed the most is the text treatment. Might have some work with typography. Not all bad though, the e-cards like whispers says do look like much of what is seen around.

There, that wasn't so bad was it?

Thanks guys. I realize that attitude towards design is strictly subjective. In what say can I improve as a designer? I suppose looking to see what is out there and learning from that. Yes, a lot of my work is dated.

I am working on my new design website. That should be a bit better than other things I have worked on. However, fear it might be gimmicky as well.

Don't let it scare you. That can only hold you back. Just get the work out there and do what you do.

Yeah I mean look at porn stars. They bare all(literally) and they get posted around the internet way more then your work will. Just do whatever work you want and who cares what people think. If at the end of the day you feel good about it and you like what you have accomplished- **** the rest.

Unless of course you're being paid for a job then you have to do whatever the person handing out the checks want

    IMO-

creating a natural focal point for the page/project/image is KEY. when things look jumbled or 'blah/muted'..the eye has no real place to focus, and that should be on the content you want them to retain. (logo, product..etc)

I also think learning how to use color palettes or variant shades of the same color will help improve you designs..

Typography is ALWAYS a good thing to work on.. it plays nicely with the two points I mentioned above.

effects are not always important but can help when used correctly.... you can leave a good impression with a static image just as much as you can with an interactive/animated one.

believe me when I tell you this. Hanging out in the Arena and battling for fun will help you a TON!

you can also look at the other forums in that section and learn a HEAP of good info.

As for color palettes and typography where do you recommend I find resources or books to get better?

I guess there would be a ton on Flashkit.
