The distortion of a slowly moving image?

The (jpeg) images on my portfolio site react to mouse movements, but their movement is very subtle. Unfortunately, not all of each image moves at the same time - more like the 1st and 3rd quarter of one image moves left a pixel, then the 2nd and 4th quarter - so the effect is a bit like an inch-worm. I want to stop this, or find out if it could be stopped at all.

Anyone else have this problem? Is there a name/fix for it?

can you post an example of what's going on? I have no clue based on your explanation.

Also, what coding language are you using to manipulate the jpgs? java, flash, ajax, etc....
