You guys crack me up. A thread about a movie which just crushed the academy awards, barely gets a nod here. If this were a thread about some anime/megatron/gi joe/pokemon/geek-pron/gallactica thing, we'd be in our 4th page by now...

Ouch. Can't really comment about the movie cos I've yet to watch it -- but since it won best picture, the director must be really good. (and everyone else behind that movie as well~)

Because I have nothing to comment on it yet. I still have to see it. I almost saw it at the BFI film festival but it sold out. I'll probably watch it this weekend. I need to see The Wrestler as well.

I said I just had a feeling I might not really like it. I have yet to actually say my final view on it. I will be sure to let you know when I see it

to be fair this was a thread about the academy awards, not slumdog. If you would like you can start a thread on slumdog millionaire and see how it goes. Personally the movies story is not something that interests me.

Now onto the more important ****. What type of pokeball would it take for the cobra commander to catch megatron? because i know id be all like MEGATRON i CHOOSE YOU!!!!!!!!!!! any time i cam face to face with a pikachu.

I think that after I see the movie I will have better judgment but from the people who have seen it did it really deserve all the awards it got over the rest or do you all think this was just all political crap like usual?

Also what was with all the big upset over Mickey Rourke not winning for The Wrestler? Again I will try and watch that this weekend so I can make a better judgment on it but the last movie I saw this guy in was Spun and before that I didn't really know who he was. Now all of a sudden he is in this and he is making this huge "come back" and bleh bleh bleh. His past movies aren't that impressive. I guess this is another under the radar movie for me that might just blow me away. I hope.

Slumdog is a beautifully done movie. I haven't seen The Reader, so can't comment there. Frost/Nixon and Milk were great, but in comparison, Slumdog takes it. Benjamin Button was better when it was called Forrest Gump.

Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler was magnificent. I think between him and Sean Penn it was a bit of a coin flip. Plus, the Academy probably didn't want an f-bomb laden rant if they gave it to Mickey Rourke.

@wannabe - in re: Mickey Rourke. Didn't you see Sin City? That one seems up your alley. Check him out in Barfly or Pope of Greenwich Village. I liked him in the Rainmaker too. He's supposed to be lined up for Iron Man 2 as well.

This all went so far over my head I can't even begin to comment.

I guess this weekend will be a "should have seen these before the awards" movie weekend.

So far it will be: Slumdog, The Wrestler, and possibly Milk if I have time.

Sean Penn is only marginally better in regards to the whole f-bomb scenario. But... lord, I'd personally would have loved a f-bomb laden acceptance speech that would have made Samuel L. Jackson blush from Rourke.

He was Marv. He owned that role. Rourke is damn good in the other movies, just so (in real life) unpredictable.

I knew he was in Sin City. I guess I need to give it another try. I have only watched it once when it first came to dvd and thought it was so-so. Visually amazing. Just have to go back and pay more attention to the story/acting.

Thanks for the other recommendations too. Added to my list.

You got me wanting to look more into him because he seems like a badass. While browsing IMDB it says he HATED working on the movie Spun. Which makes me not want to watch it again knowing that. Which is fine as I have seen it a few times already. But what I thought was kinda funny was this quote.

[on Sean Penn and his performance in Milk (2008/I)] Thought he did an average pretend acting like he was gay. Besides, he's one of the most homophobic people I know.
