It's exactly like a Californian attitude except for some differences.

in general, the 'new york city' attitude is a bad stereotype. The dozen times i've gone (and stayed in all parts of manhatten), i've only ever come across nice people.

The only 'attitude' i can see is 'keep to yourself' and don't make eye contact with strangers. Which, in a large city, is generally a good idea anyhow.

Being from massachusetts, right on the border. we get alot of new yorkers that come to shop.

Typical new yorker attitude:

1.)treat people working at the stores like ****
2.)trash the store your shopping in, you dont have to clean it up
3.)make sure to tell all the workers(all 3 of them) that they should really get a new cleaning company(they dont realize that we clean the store, and clean the ****ing messes they make)
4.)if something is $2.99 and it rings up $3.01 you need to make a scene, $.02 is highway robbery(despite the fact that it was mis labled

Basically, the stereotype is exactly that. A stereotype, which sucks...unless you're from Massachusetts.

People aren't rude or mean, they just keep to themselves. No one's going to stab you for asking the time or which platform the 1 train is running on during construction.

Ask how they're doing today...and they'll think you're either trying to sell them something, or a religious nut.

The worst is when they seem to think anything they have done, or eaten in new york is the best ever.

"Nothing can ever compare to a slice of pizza from new york". I've had pizza in NY, its not that great. They Begin to believe the hype a little to much, and because of that turn out to be comeplete ******s.
