Motherboard dead?
So I haven't really been home in almost a week so I am not sure when it happened. Last night I finally get home and go to go on my computer which was left on. I go to move the mouse and it doesn't come back from sleep mode and then I notice that the monitor isn't even getting a signal. Also my keyboard and mouse aren't getting power to them. Figuring it is just some glitch I go to manually shut down by holding down the power button and it won't even power down. I had to manually switch off the psu. Turn it back on and still nothing to my monitor or keyboard/mouse.
What could be wrong? It powers on and all the fans start going but nothing else. I am guessing a fried controller chip on my mobo?

are you being serious? Is there really modified version that disables all that crap?
Just read that it could possibly be my psu slowly dying. But it does power on and all the fans work...
I REALLY don't feel like buying a new mobo and rebuilding my computer.

The fans work, but nothing else happens?
Nothing to any other devices at all? That sounds like the motherboard.

I went to the local computer shop - I just had my machine do this two weeks ago. I had a spare AMD AM2 socket processor, swapped out and it booted right up.
Went to the local computer shop and they discovered that the processor was indeed faulty.

I don't think we have a local shop that does anything like that. This cpu is indeed a AM2. I have the 6000+ what was yours?
Yours did the same thing as in the monitor and keyboard etc stopped working?

what motherboard do you have?

I am not 100% sure but I think it is a Asus A2N. I know it's an Asus but I forget the exact model.
The same 6000+ cpu I got before is only $99 on newegg right now. I would be pissed though if I buy it and then it ends up being the mobo.

I hear ya. It is one of the best days of the year so far out right now and I am in here watching it through the window. Counting down till 5 so I can go for a hike.
I really want to get a night job so I can be outside during the days...
*edit*
I guess I can just buy the cpu and hope for the best. I will have to figure out what my mobo is exactly so I can see what other types of cpu's it can handle.

at least you have a window...
Before you buy a cpu check the mother board model. see if there are any lights. sometimes motherboards come with built in troubleshooting lights, often enough you can find out the exact problem from those lights.

I think I just have the 1 led that indicates if there is power running through it. But thanks I will look it up.
and my window looks out to a busy downtown street so it isn't much...
