    driving in games?

I've been a burnout and wipe out fan for a while, but just got a need for speed for ds...wow, so different, but I don't know if I like it.

The driving feels completely different. You need to really slow down in curves, lose control of the car quickly if you drift for too long. It feels slower, too. I guess it makes it more realistic?

Comparing that to burnout, where you can go through a race without stepping on the break once, and with those nitros that send you faster than a rocket...I like that more, even if it's completely unrealistic.

So, what style do you like more? the fly smooth like a rocket enjoying the speed, or a more realistic/complicated style?

in need for speed, yes you can, but you do need to slow down a bit or you'll lose control quickly. In burnout drifting is more fun...

I like both kinds. I loved how GT forced me to "paint with the car" so to speak. Drift off someone down a straight-a-way then apply just enough down force for an outside pass around a hairpin. As far as contextual immersion, few other games in any genre come close.

That's all well and good but sometimes I just want an enhanced gaming experience where PGR, Midnight Run, and especially Grid deliver. PGR's kudos system was addicting. Grid's career mode focuses on getting you in many varied races without a buzz-killing menu system.

Then there's straight up racer-porn. Burnout was such a great stress reliever after a days work but after about 30 hrs with the game, just unlocking impossible stuff was not enough replay. Wipeout on the other hand is on my all time favorite game list and remember more than a few out-of-body gaming experiences with it. It's even inspired a sports title I have a dream of developing some day.

Racers are like music, depends on the mood.

I found Burnout to be silly.
Need for Speed to be good unrealistic fun.
Forza and similar realistic sims can be annoying but very addictive. There comes a point where the realism is beyond the input you receive playing the game (you can't feel inertia in your leather club chair).

I had the full logitech 900-degree force feed back wheel for GT4 and it added an unprecedented level of immersion to the game. It's ability to simulate slip and grip taught me so much about how to effectively use down force. A shining moment in peripheral design and manufacturing.

Ridge Racer (series) and Gran Turismo (series) are the only driving games I've liked since Pole Position II.

after reading this thread, I got a hankering for a racing game which i haven't played since owning a PS2.

Bought Burnout Paradise and PGR4 ($18 each used). Jaquan is right, Burnout is racer-porn. I love it. No real skill involved, just have to pay attention and gun it.

I have yet to pop in PGR4, but am looking forward to it.

Thank you Flashkit for getting me back into racing games.

Yeah Road Rash 3d was awful and I think it made the publishers think no one liked the series anymore but I say make it more brutal then ever and make a new one and people will eat it right up.

Jet Moto needs to make a return as well. With less Mtn Dew ads

Why be super realistic when its all about games? We need to cheat sometimes. Need for speed for me. Just because I can crash into buildings and not worry about hospital bills.

Maybe my problem with Forza is that it had Faux Feedback not true force feedback. It was a definite improvement but still far from the feeling on the track. I think Forza 2 and 3 have true force feedback.

the thing that makes super realistic racing games is the amount of skill you need to win races

The same can be said about the arcade like racing games as well that are all vroom vroom crash vroom.

The most fun i had with the GT games were when my brother and i would each bring in our best cars from our own personal games and race each other in long ass races. Races where you would need to pit to get your tires changed every so often so you could keep you low times going strong due to the grip loss causing slower laps.

did GT5 implement any differnt pit stop changes?

From what I saw in the video GT5 now has Nascar in it? Did GT take over Nascar or do you think that just a small part of the game will feature a few cars?

If they do it in any kind of GT tradition there will be a whole games worth of content per race mode.
