Adobe forces Flashden to change its name

Some of you might have heard about this.

    http://blog.activeden.net/site-news/...-to-activeden/

Adobe did this with freshairapps in the past too.

Do these events not bode well for flashkit and other sites that have 'flash' in the domain name?

This definitely doesn't bode well for Flashkit... Flashdevils... Flashmove... etc.

Looks like it's high time to start an official new name suggestion thread.

Hmmm... it seems that adobesucks.com is already taken.
    Well there goes my suggestion.

    Next?

I think if even one of these guys challenged Adobe in court, Adobe would not win. The easiest reason is that they actually haven't tried to defend their trademark very much in the last decade or half-decade. FK and all those other sites have been there for years and they haven't done anything. They are selectively targeting people that they think will not challenge them.

I'm against all trademarks on common english terms such as "flash" or "air". These terms should be no tradmarkable. "Adobe flash" and "Adobe air", sure. But not "Flash" or "Air" by themselves.

don't forget... Flashden was profiting from the word "flash" in their title. Flashkit is part of the community, answering questions mostly whereas Flashden was profiting from their work.

I'm sure the owners of flashkit make a pretty penny. All these sites profit from having the word "flash" in the title.

My guess is they went after Flashden because they wanted to get into the stock file market themselves. Its the reason why they went after freshairapps a while back.

Flashkit doesn't sell their files like Flashden does.

    Craziness.
Flashden and Flashkit were and are evangelists for the flash movement. Macromedia wouldn't have moved squat in sales of flash if not for the social networking and supplimental support that the greater flash communites brought to the masses.
All larger organizations of this nature require some form of ROI for effort. Here we advertise, Some places sell templates other places sell templates without giving back to the community at all.

I'm not aware of Adobe selling flash templates I could be wrong. I don't believe adobe is in the position of supporting templates they don't sell so I don't see how adobe can prove it as a burden on thier business model.

Let us hope that adobe's better days are still ahead of them where they focus on product development rather then behind them where they turn into eolas or the wright brothers.

Vermonster is not a good beer. Especially for $5 a bottle.
