Average home PC?
you know... ram, procesor, video card.
The real question is for what computer am I working for,
normal person buys an average Pc and doesn't update
but after 3 years or so when the cheap PC turns useless,
we're making games for this guy/kids Pc.
I'm looking forward to make 2 different engines in a game
one that runs for slow Pc's and one that runs for high
average ones, so I don't give the low quality middle finger.

Script kiddie
most of my friends still aren't on Core 2 Duos. the few who are are mostly Mac users (so still bad GFX). Don't assume 2GB of RAM will be available, but 1GB is probably reasonable.

Don't forget netbooks. They're very popular as kids or teen's computers instead of a laptop, and some adult casual users like them too for "internet on the go" or on the couch browsing. We're talking 1.6ghz systems with 800x600 screens.
