Actually they are all for sale at 7-11. It's a special cross-promotion Sony is doing. Just fill up a Slurpee cup with nacho cheese and ask the clerk to see his special hot dog with a knowing wink.

So -GT5 is definitely being released on wednesday (or at least that's what the guy in the game store told me).
Is this 100% ? Is it actually going to be released?

Depends on how he said it. If his eye's pitched up for a second while he muttered, "Uhhhhh, yeah. Yeah that one's coming out on wednesday" he was an idiot. If he never broke eye contact, cut you off before you could get the question out and smugly rattled off the release date and any in-store promotions as if he himself developed the game, he was telling the truth.

It's already out there. Retail copies were leaked a week or two ago, so it's probable. Releasing it Wednesday without any real commercial promotion doesn't make financial sense, but would definitely be fitting for the standard it's set for itself leading up until now.

He has risen!
We've been talking about this game for YEARS it seems. I was flabbergasted when i saw the commercial with a real release date... I'm not a racing fan, but it looks amazing and HUGE.

Why the hell has it taken this long? Wasn’t this suppose to be one of the launching games of PS3?

I think part of it was getting agreement with the manufacturers as to which cars would be premium detail models and which would be standard... or at least that's what the dude in the shop told me.

with a high end studio movie budget(hundred + million dollars) and 7 years i should hope it looks good. GT has always made good racing games, but i have to say i had just as much fun with forza as i did with any GT games, and the Forza games didnt make me go through getting a licence any time i wanted to go to the next level of racing..
If the PS3 online community can support it it should be fun. Best racing game of all time? i think we will need to wait a year before we decide. there will be a lot of people jumping on the GOAT bandwagon on and shortly after release day, but from what i remember watching both games side by side Gt5 wasn't light years ahead of Forza 3, despite around 3 years more dev time.

I'm a huge racing game fan and have owned all of the GT's. Even bought the wheel for 4. From a numbers perspective, it truly was the best of racing. But from an honest gamers stand point, I've experienced more sheer glee with PGR, Forza and unexpectedly GRID. Burn Out was a great diversion but closer to a hack and slash action game than a racer. I'll still play Blur any time my co-workers and I have time.
I might pick up GT5 but like silver says, the licensing has always been what gets me to stop playing.

the thing about these sim car games, they may have hundreds of cars, but your only going to drive at most 20 of them unless your a hardcore car-tard and have to drive every car in the game because you want to feel how "different" they are.
in forza you find out which car is the best and thats the car you use, you don't take a corvette over an audi, when your playing online, the audii is going to rape the corvettes face.
just going through and looking at the time trials each track just has a giant list of one car.
Also the car painting in forza 3, i have spent hours just doing that.

OK - So I've picked up a copy today - played 30 minutes or so. It's good - kind of exactly as you'd imagine really - so far I don't notice any difference in graphics quality over prologue.
Getting the licences is a bit annoying but that's part of the game - I just wish I could move to the decent cars faster as the lower level races are just a case of sitting there and going through the motions.
Think I need to play it a load more to properly get a decent review of it
