Right - nice captured on all of these.

What aperture are you shooting at? I'm still trying to find the best aperture for my portraits (I know there's no perfect aperture) - I'm still normally shooting at f/4 as I like to blur the background but sometimes f/4 is still a touch too narrow and there's too much of the subject OOF..

    Anyway:

#1 - Could maybe be a touch brighter? And, the background is maybe too much in focus
#2 - This I like - nice capture and composition. Background works well - eyes nicely in focus
#3 - Nice pose although maybe the bag is distracting and would maybe look more natural if she didn't have those woolly socks on!
#4 - Yes - this is nice although maybe the background could be a little more blurred (I can see the creases in your backdrop).

All good shots - I'm very jealous you have the space to work like that

    Thank you John...highly appreciated!

They all could be a tad brighter...excuse: I used two BenQ Monitors when I did these...now on my calibrated EIZO I see all what I have done wrong at that time...the normal office monitors are way too bright.

    Exif #1 : f25, 1/160s, Iso 200, 240mm focal length
    Exif #2 : f25, 1/160s, Iso 200, 170mm focal length
    Exif #3 : f22, 1/160s, Iso 200, 80mm focal length
    Exif #4 : f25, 1/160s, Iso 200, 140mm focal length

All taken with D700 and Nikkor 70-300mm

...and 'Oh yes, the socks!' suck!

Wow! You're shooting at f/25 - no wonder they are all in focus.

Do you ever shoot at a wider aperture for a narrower depth of field or do you prefer everything in focus?

    frex,

What are you using for your light kit?

Were you using (or do you use) a light ring for the first two shots?

    Nice work...

It's all about the lens...I love to 'stay away' from the models, means I am not bulldozing them...this is giving more confidence if your model is not use to a photographer creeping into her nose

Yes I do shoot in wider aperture...depends on what I/we want

    No ring light!
Mostly a 250 studio flash, umbrella reflected sometimes and a piece of styrofoam to lighten the dark areas.
I do like our big Hensel Hazylight which is giving a well balanced light.
I can drag it down and swing it in any direction...
