I'm still a fan. He might have misstepped with that statement a bit considering when truth puts lives in danger, someone should get in big trouble. The first people to face a tribunal however should the the I.T. people who didn't set up any flags for 18 gigs of data being downloaded off a classified computer.

One of our more crappy news channels is reporting today of a list of global sites vital to US security. I have been watching all morning as they mention an Australian 'snake venom manufacturer' ...and that is the bit that really bugs me.
Talk about dumbing stuff down for an audience.
Firstly, the only thing that manufactures snake venom is a snake.
Secondly, if they are talking about a snake 'antivenom' manufacturer, then we only have one - CSL Ltd. and they are a little more than a 'snake venom manufacturer'.
To quote their own website - 'CSL Limited is a global speciality biopharmaceutical company that researches, develops, manufactures and markets products to treat and prevent serious human medical conditions'.
Products include Pharmaceuticals, Vaccines, Plasma derived therapies (they are a major player in this field), Antivenoms. They are the only commercial manufacturer of influenza vaccines in the Southern Hemisphere.
Important to US security ...maybe.
...best to dumb it down for Australian TV audience just in case.

Listen, I don't think the guy should be vilified without due process, but conversely, he's also not someone slated for sainthood. All conspiracy nonsense aside...just because he can get a hold of documents and he can put said documents on the internet does not mean he should. The public's desire for "secrets" to be outed like some X-Files episode does not imply that it's in the public's best interest to do so. The masses are indeed asses.

I agree. But I also think if anyone should be hunted down and have their bank accounts frozen, it should be the thief who stole the documents.

I thought they have that Bryan Manning character in custody - he is the main suspect, no? Incidentally, Assange's latest fiasco of threatening the law enforcement community with his 'poison pill' file which will be released if he's extradited to Sweden is nothing short of blackmail.

 typical of our news services here, I had no idea that they actually had someone in custody accused of stealing the information that has been leaked.
Seems he is being held in solitary confinement at the marine corp base at quantico awaiting trial.
All of our news here focuses on Assange and the public disclosure of information that was never meant to be seen by the general public.

And yes I agree, it's getting out of hand. However, in fairness the "other" side started with hacking into the WL hosting servers. So, this is the first example of "Civil Cyber World War (CCWW) 1". We are witness of a historical moment.
