    The annual Stanley thread

Granted the wings are off to a great start. I think the Canucks have a really good shot this year. But to be honest I haven't really followed the regular season.

Detroit stomped all over a barely-breathing Phoenix squad. I can't consider that as a sign of things to come until they play a worthy opponent. The Capitals are firing on all cylinders right now and Vancouver is probably the toughest team on paper in all of the playoffs. A matchup between those two would be fun to watch.

Easy wins can be a great motivator or they can make you drop your guard.

    Round 2 matchups are set:
    Capitals-Lightning
    Flyers-Bruins
    Sharks-Wings
    Canucks-Predators

Flyers-Bruins is a really nice matchup. The Caps should breeze past TB and the Canucks should have no issues as well. Sharks/Wings could go either way, but I think SJ should step up...finally.

So much for breezing past. Then again my homeboys aren't doing that well either.

So far I'm most impressed with the Bruins. Sure they have the goal tending but they were always feast or famine in regards to scoring during the regular season.

The Caps are done. Young goalie not able to step it up in the playoffs is killing them. Bruins looking great as do the Sharks. Sharks/Canucks in the next round should be fun.

Now the Caps are REALLY done! Boston and SJ may sweep as well. What a sh*tty second round...

Congrats to the workingman's Bruins. Tim Thomas absolutely deserved the MVP and the Canucks fans may be the sorest losers in sports. Anyone who watched some of this years playoffs should now understand exactly what it takes to win a cup. You need every player on your team to step up at the right time and play their hearts out for 2 months. The Bruins were that team this year.

i cant understand why the canucks left luongo in.

That has to be one of the worst 7 game performances for a goalie in history. other then games 1 and 5 the bruins just seemed to bend him over a chair and give him the business. after the blowouts in games 3 and 4 they should have benched him.

And the fact that he was talking trash after the overtime goal that Thomas let go by is hilarious.

That has always been Luongo's deal. He's a hothead and once he lets one goal in he's like a sieve. Last night was not his fault though. First goal off the post, second goal came after he got locked up by one of the Sedin brothers, the third one was reviewed and could have been argued as interference from the Boston player.

He didn't lose that game or that series, though. When the highest scoring team in the league scores only 8 goals in a 7 game series...you point fingers at the offense.

He played hot and cold, the rest played hot and cold with him. It goes back to to the idea that one player does not make a good team.
