    Is Flash gaming dead?

Just curious because I read this article at http://www.photonstorm.com/archives/...tml5-and-unity and I'd like to know what do you guys think about the future of Flash gaming.

Currently I'm developing my first game and it gets released in March / April 2012. I'm still new to AS3 so I'm totally unaware about the future of the Flash/AIR-gaming platform. Do you think you can develop native Flash games for the next 3 - 5 years?

Heck if Flash is going to be dominated by HTML5, lol, maybe when it comes to web applications and stuff like that, but when it comes to gaming, Flash is by far the largest spread online gaming plugin. HTML5 doesn't have an official IDE as opposed to Flash, hence making Flash easier and more user-friendly to create. Besides, I've read that integrating sound and music to HTML5 games requires third-party tools such as Flash!

Thanks. Yeah I already heard that HTML5 sucks when it comes to gaming.

Just one question though (this may be a stupid question):

Is it possible to earn money and making a living with Flash-based web games in the next 5 years?

    Hi,

I personally think that adobe and apple will make up after a certain time and then release iphones/ipods with flash capabilities, so they can sell huge amounts of gadgets over and over again, once they have sold a load of gadgets without it.

@drpelz: I am not sure, but if you make a successful game which keeps getting views everyday, and get a sponsor for it, you can earn some cash (though the amount is dependent of the game's popularity) - Newgrounds is a great Flash website for you to post your games to

@fruitbeard: yeah, I hope so too

Newgrounds. Yes I will post my first game there when it's finished but before that I will try to get a sponsor.

    Thanks for your tips!

    HTML 5 != FLASH KILLER.

IMHO.. HTML 5 only covers/targets a SMALL prtion of what Flash can do.

IMHO.. Flash was widely used as a way to deliver video on the internet..!

people were 'amazed'.. but were also angry aty how hard it was and had to use flash..etc..etc..

(enter HTML 5 and video tags!)..

    (so what?)

its nice & convenient.. and also has some minor animation options too.. but a FAR CRY from the ability Flash has to offer.

I think AS3 was a double edged sword.. .. it was a nice code transgression for programmers to have a nicer, more robust tool box... but it also drew the line in the sand on learning curve as well.. and I think it turned alot of people off. or at least they stayed were they were in terms on learning flash..etc

However.. I still dont know how HTML 5 would do something like this:
