    deviantArt community

How long has deviantArt basically been a porn site full of idiots with phone cams taking pictures of their junk in a mirror, or posting porn content for 13 year olds to view?

I hope nobody has a 13 year old child who is a member there, or wants to be. If so, be warned, the content is very doubtful, and getting worse almost daily.

The moderators and admin there seem to have no idea what their own guidelines state. One of those guidelines states, 'no semen or vaginal fluids' (gives you some idea of their current standards )

I reported one image posted in their 'Artistic Nudes' category which had a semen covered penis.

The admin who dealt with my report contacted me back and told me the image did not breach their existing guidelines on pornography.

So either the admin is wrong, or the guidelines are wrong. there are no shades of grey in regard to the image or the guidelines.

    Guidelines - no semen
    Image - semen

what the f' is all i can say. I like DA because there are some good artists there, and some great stock images for photshop compositions, but they have got their head wrong if they allow porn and 13 year olds in the same room without controls.

I've never been nor ever wanted to go there to be honest.

So long as they announce themselves on the bleeding edge they'll push that edge as far back as possible and nothing will push them back from there.

I ever tell you the story of a failed attempted suicide? The short of it is kid tries to blow his guts out with a sawed off shotgun. His parents weren't exactly the best parents and even though he had made several cries for help with other things they pretty much ignored it till it was too late. He lived and was crippled physically for life. So much for the bleeding edge.

Those contributors and voyeurs are the lost and broken souls of an unwanted youth. Disillusioned and desperate for attention at any cost save facing the truth of their own inadequacy. They may never be whole, and they feel reward for the prize of disgusting others.

I rejoined recently and it's just a bit sad. There really have been some great artists nurtured there, doing some fine art. It's just that they have not been able to stop the self-obsessed from joining and posting bad images of their own junk.

wish I had some input on the rules and their enforcement there.

Hasn't DA always been a split community since the beginning? Amazing digital arts vs. the emo kids with their moms webcam?

I guess so, but now the self-obsessed and fetishers have really found it and everyone thinks that because they have a camera in their phone, they have suddenly become a great photographer.

I just wished they realised that a having a camera in their phone does not make them photographers, just like having a cooker in the kitchen does not make people chefs.

I've been on dA since 2004, and deeply involved in the digital art scene.

It's always been a LOT of amateurs with Bryce and Photoshop 7, but now all the great artists seem to have migrated away. I still check it every now and then, but I mainly stick to depthCORE or other artgroups websites.

seems very true in the last few weeks.

It is almost like some porn BB somewhere has announced that DA is a good place to host your collection of self-shot porn images. The number of newbies posting a dozen or so badly shot and self-obsessed images on their first day has soared.

You've been busy over there at DA as well, just been looking at your gallery.

It seems to be a lot of weirdness. I had never even heard of 'cosplay' until I re-joined DA a few weeks ago, and there seems to be tribes of 13 - 20 year olds who trace each others humanised animal characters and get incredibly defensive about their creations (to the level of death threats out in the WW interweb).

I do like their HTML5 drawing tool 'dA Muro' though. We should have one here. I would use it often. It is lots of fun and the action in their drawPLZ forum is fast and furious, kinda like the Arena was here with it's PS battles, only they are drawing challenges.

for eg recent challenge - Draw a picture with your mouse
