I cannot change the background colours of the input text fields I have created. They seem to be stuck at white. Any ideas how to change them?

Just remove the background.... then you can make the background the colour you want by making a box...

I cannot do that. I cannot work out how to control the background of the text field. I know it should be transparent automatically but whenever I make a text field Flash gives it a white background, which I cannot remove.

    grrrr rrrr

you need to click the text field button when editing the text box (it is the button on the main tools menu which has an ab with a line next to it - it is only visible when editing the text field), once this is depressed right click on the text input box and there is a checkbox option for draw border and background - uncheck this - i hope this helps
