When making a text object link to a URL, is there anyway to make that URL page open in a new window? In the character options, there is a place for URL, but I don't see any place for target.

It doesn't look like you can do it to a text link.
So make the clickable text a button, or make an invisible button (only make a shape in the 'hit' frame of the button, leave the rest blank)and put it over the word that you want to be a link.
Then on 'mouse release' or whatever use the 'get url' action and in the dropdown called 'window' under 'url' choose 'blank'.

MM says no
Hi,
I had the same question a few days ago and contacted MM. They confirmed this is not possible using the character panel.
Someone suggested using javascript in the URL field, but this does not seem to work with all browsers.

I was checking out the Flash 5 runthrough in flashkit when I came across this page >

It explains how you can now use html 1.0 in a textfield!!!
Just add your target to the HTML.

not a text field, just a static text
Hi Poolea,
I think Drinkfist does not mean a dynamic text field . I know you can load a simple html file into a dynamic text field. But this is not the topic here (I guess).
Just have a look a the character panel (window - panels - character) and you have a field named "URL" where you can enter a URL for static text (not a dynamic text field!, plain static text!). This options is very handy, but only allows to open external URLs in the same browser window. An option like (_blank) is not available here.
I had the same same problem and the MM support confirmed that it is impossible to open the URL in a new browser window using this panel.
To do so you have to, as you mentioned eralier, use buttons or dynamic text fields with html.
I hope, this will be fixed in Flash 6, because it would be a real time-saver.
