Help with a 'Tute

I'm having a little bit of a problem understanding this tutorial. (http://www.flashkit.com/tutorials/Ac...12/index.shtml)

I made my own preloader, following all the directions, and not only does the preloader cease count the bytes after 1 second, but the animation for the preloader operates independently of the bytes loaded?

What am I doing wrong?!
