Controlling Flash movie with HTML hyperlink

I'm not too sure if this is possible, since I've never tried it, but I have a good old HTML page with some standard hyperlinks, and then a Flash movie in the center of the page. I am trying to have the HTML hyperlinks (or even make those into a seperate Flash movie independent of the main one, but still on the same page) control/change the main Flash movie in the center of the page. So if the HTML hyperlink is "Contact Us", once clicked, the HTML page would stay the same, but the Flash movie in the center of the page would change to something like contact.swf. Any help would be appreciated.

    and external interface's predecessor is?

It appears, upon doing some research following the link you provided (thank you), that I am a version behind. Currently I am working with Flash MX, and it seems as though external interface is Flash 8 & up. Since I am trying to have links in HTML change stuff in a Flash movie on the same page, would I be able to use anything like FSCommand in Flash along with Javascript in HTML? Thanks.
