Intergrating flash GUI's with external script "read" action files
Sorry if this does not make any sense, I'm sure it is possible, but I just wondered if it is possible to intergrate a frontend web gui with code read from a specified action database file on the same server?
I know certainly that in dhtml, php and perl this is possible using certain read "iostream commands", but how would I actually intergrate the backframe code into my GUI? (I know this depends completely on what I am trying to do)
For instance, if I wanted to create a password protection interface in flash, and use various commands to read data from an external file outside the flash environment such as plain database file or html file telling the gui what to do, how could I point the actionscript to read the data from elsewhere?
I'm seriously considering purchasing Koolmoves and using it as my prime graphical ide, but any help on how to intergrate flash with external script files would be good since I am fairly new to flash.
Kind Regards

I'm not sure if the Koolmoves demo will open full version source code (I never demoed but instead bought immediately so don't know) but our file exchange (KoolExchange) has many examples of Koolmoves integrating server side backends. We have examples of flat text, MySQL, XML PHP and other methods of storage and retrieval and that would be the best bet for current code examples. The resource page at the main site is also a great place for information and examples but it covers Koolmoves since it's inception and some articles are dated (not all but some).
Bob in the last year has (IMO) completely changed Koolmoves from it's previous incarnations and has transformed it into a viable, stable and powerful AS1 platform that can not only hold it's own with Flash itself (in the context of AS1), will allow you to reap the benefits of it's newer items like components, integrated 3D rendering, Flash 8 filters and blendmodes and much much more that simply didn't exist with earlier versions of the software.
I'm a Flashkit mod and a Flash user and love Flash itself but I regard Koolmoves as one of the most impressive programs I have ever encountered. It's low cost brings many users to the table that might not have been able to afford Flash itself (or justify the cost), it's power enables those users to create exported movies that have the potential to be anything Flash movies can (including Flash 8 exports) and it has one of the most active development teams you will ever find. For 50 bucks It cannot be beat by anything in this market with comperable features.
Sorry I droned on.

Another great example would be the Necromanthus website. Remus ( the admin) has a running forum and also a chat system both built with Koolmoves that would show you how well Koolmoves integrates with server side code.
Forums are extremely complicated and his running example is a testament to the power of Koolmoves. Remus also carries source code for the Koolmoves platform so it's worth a visit for sure.

No problem Chris and thanks for the help. It is nice to come to a forum who respect your question's and give you a direct answer back. Even if it means mingling and mashing around code from various other web languages, I'm sure too it can be done. When I ran a graphical end environment on linux, I was able to manipulate under the hood code which was linked via dynamic allocation actions ported to C++
At the moment I'm just running the demo to get to know abit more about this decent application. But from what I can see here, you can intergrate content and components and even html so that might make it abit easier. I have visited various websites who use user based flash input modules - so if it is not possible to distribute souly as a flash file, I'm sure you can link it up to various databases etc.
Also, if I can do all this work in koolmoves, then it get's better rating from me. I don't have any other ide of present except bloodshed, and I'm abit of a tight "intergration" man when it comes to working with development, so Ideally I would like just one app such as koolmoves to save confusion. Clearly I can see flash is the way to go though and look foward to buying koolmoves!.
Kind Regards
