    Laptop Casualty?

Wife let the laptop slide off of a couple stairs. It seemed to work fine for a while. But, now, when you try to turn it on, the green lights seem to cycle through but they just turn back off before the screen powers up at all.

My hunch is that something about the battery or built in charger is broken which would explain why it continued working until the battery ran out. But, I'm not good with hardware troubleshooting at all so I dont know. Any ideas on whats wrong?

Also, is it worth having repaired? Its a Dell Inspiron about 4 years old.

heh. data recovery isnt an issue on that machine at all. i almost never used it. its mainly my wifes machine that she finds convenient to have wireless internet in random places around the house.

but, the thing cost something like $2500. id hate to just throw it in the trash.

Yeah it's gutting .. but what would it cost now?..how much would it cost to repair? ... In my experience it cost more to repair laptops.. if it costs more to repair than to replace.. then I'd get a new one..

And I bet you would like a shiny new laptop go on .. then you could give your old one to the wife.. everyone's a winner!!!

plus you could always try to sell the broken one on ebay for spare parts..

    wouldn't get much thought..

What about insurance?? could you clam?

yeah. good points. it seems like it will probably cost as much to repair as it would to just get a new one. even bottom of the line is probably better now.

i believe i did get the warranty for it. but, i think it would be expired now. i should doublecheck that...
