It's a bit too dark still Frexus Maximus

Use more light, try shining a MAG light on it, it gives some really nice reflections,w hich Though normally not cool, but in this case go ahead for it

and if your Backdrop is clean with no dust, might wanna up the flash and the exposure time a bit, to get a crispier more well lit photo

Ohh and ALWAYS have plenty of fake Glass diamonds on you, so that you can swap some whenever you have the chance

Thank's a lot Igno for the advice...highly appreciated!
I'll use a flash next time...my backdrop was nothing but an old piece of wood out of the garden so clean or not is no issue

looks great on my CRT monitor, nice bright stone, but have to agree on the TFT flat screen it's a little dark and it looses a little of the stones detail.
and in a blink of an eye...

Faceted gem stones look the best when they sparkle. The sparkle comes from light refracting within the gem and finally coming out towards the viewer. Not only will you want a bright light on the gem, you'll want quite a few in order to make it really shine. I'd also suggest going for a brighter background since dark colors will absorb the light instead of reflect it.
