Things a bit Rocky for Rambo

Sylvester Stallone was flying in to Australaia to promote (god forbid) another Rocky movie.

gets to the airport and....busted (and not for making another Rocky movie).

    http://www.abc.net.au/news/newsitems...2/s1850394.htm

...delayed for several hours while investigations on prohibited imports took place, and then, to top it off, customs went to his hotel room to serve a summons...
officers swooped when they allegedly noticed "suspicious activity" inside his suite. The source said Stallone was seen allegedly trying to throw objects off his hotel room's balcony.
    http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sto...58-661,00.html

It was finally decided to let him fly out last night (we didn't really want Rambo in an Aussie prison...the prison officers would have needed a 'mumble' translator )

I don't understand why that guy gets a bad rap. Yea he has an Italian NY accent that's easy to impersonate.

...from what I hear and read, he tried to bring illegal substances into Australia (steriods are the popular pick in the media this morning)...if that is the true, then in my eyes, he is just another drug smuggler, except that his fame allowed him to fly out of the country, rather than end up in a prison here until a court decided his fate.

I don't doubt that the media here are beating this up a little, nothing sells news like famous people getting into trouble with the law.

But I still think his minders should have investigated a little to find out if they might have problems with whatever substance/s are in question here.

Just because you fly around in a private plane, it does not exclude you from the laws of a country you fly into.

David, there is drug smuggling and there are bringing protien shake mix that you have used for years with you on a tour of your movies.

Australia is going insane lately with thier laws, its not like sly brought in steroids to sell people, or coke to give to little kids.

watch out david, posting on the internet might be illegal over thier.

Australian laws haven't changed too much on what is or isn't a prohibited substance.
I guess eventually we might find out the truth.

In regards to " its not like sly brought in steroids to sell people, or coke to give to little kids."

I never suggested that there was any mention of drug dealing.

The bottom line is that sombody should have done a little investigation into what was allowed and not allowed when entering a country. What is legal in the US may not be legal elsewhere.

Or are you suggesting that we should relax our laws on prohibited substances for famous people?

totally agree, it's irrelevant what he brought into the country, what its intended use was and, who to be used by. His actions clearly look suspicious and the authorities have the right to question.... I see no problem with that no matter who it is...

maybe, but you would have to wonder why customs later decided to get a search warrant for his hotel room, limo and private jet...Did you read the second article I linked to above?

customs and "prohibited" could mean certain fruits. mere rumors and no solid evidence sounds like sheer speculation and sensationalism to me.

sheer speculation and sensationalism...well yes, it is the press that is reporting it in such a manner.

....and yes, it could be anything....but it was not fruit, which would have been thrown in a bin and destroyed at the airport and a fine issued.

I think anyone who got arrested for an apple is stretching the truth, or there was another reason for an arrest.

According to our latest news it was steroids, and he has been summonsed to appear in an Australian court later this week.

I wonder if he will come back.

guilty plea today for importing 48 vials of human growth hormone. Sentencing next week.

    http://www.smh.com.au/news/national/...995115011.html

The court heard earlier that Stallone threw vials of testosterone from his Sydney hotel balcony because he had a "consciousness of guilt".
The maximum fine for the offence is $110,000, but Stallone faces a maximum penalty of $22,000 because the charge is being dealt with in a local court.

Australian laws prohibit the importation of natural and manufactured growth hormones without a permit.

I am not sure they did that. He got media attention because he is famous...but he did bring a banned substance into the country, he was caught, and now he has pleaded guilty to that...and next week he will be fined and pay the fine, and everybody will be very civilised about it. He has apologised.

...no one said he eats babies.
