    One More Eagle

Got this guy today. I'm really starting to like the Bald Eagle because of shots like this. We got one more day of sun coming up tomorrow, then a week of snow and cloudy days that I won't want to be out in, so I figured I'd better get some shooting in now. Don't mean to bore anyone.

    Thanks Frex.

In the last couple days, I have made a big discovery in how to shoot the action shots. Not so much the camera settings, I think I have that figured out now. It's more about knowing the eagle and what he's going to do next. Which is easier than it sounds. They are creatures of habit and will do the same thing over and over, so getting these high G turning shots is just a matter of seeing it coming and having the camera up to the eye when it does. Plus, I used the tripod today.

Not really. The eagle was far enough away that it was easy to pan on him. this is about a 1/3 crop of the original. But it does take practice to pan and shoot, which I have been doing.

After seeing this shot the day after that other nice one, I ordered the 1.4 TC. That ought to bring them in just that little bit more for frame fillers with that 400L Prime.

Now, for a few more sunny days.

So is that 1.4 of the 400 then the sensor is 1.6 of that number? how does that all work out to end up being?

Why not just go all out and get the 2x

The 1.4 will up the focal length to 540mm. I already have the 2x, but AF doesn't work with it on the 30D. You need the 1D or 5D to keep AF with that one. Something about going over f/8. The 30D loses it with those lenses and the 2x, while the 1 and 5 series cameras keep it. The 1.4x will up the f/5.6 400l to 8 and it's supposed to keep the autofocus. It's a bag of worms though. Some work some don't.
