Actually, it's not. An must be followed by a word that starts with a vowel.

You would say:

Not:

Please send me a umbrella.

Or

I want a car for Christmas.

Not

I don't think big words, I think of lol, and there's a meaning to that that triggers some laughter

I don't take time to figure out that it means
