    Please could someone verify this.
    You can set the variable for a dynamic text box in a movie clip that is on a masked layer, cos the debugger will tell you that it is set.
    But it won't display!
    of this I am sure

    Same here, looks like a bug/undocumented feature to me!!

    This could fall under the category of "You can't dynamically update a mask".

    I wonder why not. Is it a bug or a shortcoming in the feature list? A response from Macromedia would be greatly appreciated. And maybe next release of Flash will allow masks to be moved along a motion guide as well. Thx.

    this is a well documented shortcoming of flash, you can't mask dynamic text 8(

    that is you can't mask unsmoothed text - if you choose to save to font outlines, you can see the dynamic text masked
    8)
