    Just out of curiosity, what applications do you use to create/edit HTML pages? Personally I use a mixture or EditPlus And Dreamweaver..

    Arachnophilia: it's just notepad, but highlights the tags.

    I use DW as well.
    The other day, I bought a box of animal crackers. On the side, it said "Do Not Eat if Seal is Broken". I opened the box and sure enough...

    I used homesite for the longest time. It got bought out by macromedia a couple years ago and just got integrated into dreamweaver mostly.

    Here you go buddy, it's freeware:
    http://www.arachnoid.com/arachnophilia/index_old.html

    Arachno = net/web
    Philia = love

    Love for the web baby!
    Spiders are way cooler than dreamweavers anyway. Not to mention more hardcore.

    OMG yes! I love Homesite! I used to use it all the time, but now I've been using Dreamweaver MX (not 2004). I used to love Codesweep in Homesite, that's the only feature that Dreamweaver hasn't taken.

    I use Dreamweaver for everything now. Still on MX, 2004 is out of my budget.

    i use dreamweaver at work, cause they use SOFIA (a framework for java) that has a nice set of dreamweaver components to create jsp's applications easily. Besides that, the templating system in Dreamweaver is cool.

    But i'm a notepad coder. I use HTML-Kit (at www.chami.com ) i don't know if it's the best, but it was the one i learned with, and i stayed with it.

    why?

    I use notepad for coding CSS and javascript, but always build sites in dreamweaver though I mostly handcode in dreamweaver rather than using the wysiwyg features. The manual code entry in dw is fine, the highlighting is good and the code hints save time, plus you can take advantage of all the site features dw offers such as template editing site-wide and file sharing.

    dw is crap with scripts though, its css thing is inadequate though I'm not sure what the mx2004 one is like, I think I will always prefer to handcode css, but I still hand code it in dreaweaver sometimes.

    use whatever works for you. Personally I can code a lot quicker in dw and the site features help if I have to change an element or a link across all pages, and by applying templates to a site you effective create a css for site structure.. change the number of columns in a table on one page and it changes across all pages created by the template for example, unless you tell it not to.

    some people will always prefer coding in notepad and that's fine for them but I hate that attitude that if you don't code in notepad you're not as good, it's dumb, try different apps and methods and use what suits you best, ignore the elitists.

    I DON'T OWN ANYTHING ELSE!

    I think my website looks pretty decent considering every version of it has been created using notepad and ms paint only (other than the logo, everything was done by me).

    Notepad takes longer, its more difficult for finding errors, etc., but then it does give a lot of control.

    My point is why reinvent the wheel??
    If you have other stuff, more expensive stuff, or stuff that makes the job 100 X's easier, why not use it? I know I would.

    My 2 cents

    I remember when we had to learn html in school. I'm glad they made us do it but once they showed us Dreamweaver it was like giving a lighter to a caveman.

    the only thing i would say that is a necessity with html is learn how to code it by hand, whatever you use to build sites in the end.

    i have both dreamweaver and frontpage, but when i try to use them, the page just ends up in a pile. whenever that happens, i use the code edit function, so instead of messing about in the wysiwig part trying (frustrated) to get something in the right place and finding out that it was nice enough to change some of the stuff (like table and cell widths) and then i have to go back to the html to fix it anyways.

    and its also much cooler to use notepad and seeing all the code. then when someone comes over they think ur doing something very importatn, just like when u open files in command prompt

    HA! Best laugh I've had all day.

    Did anyone notice the JS code in that ad? It was Dreamweaver generated code. MM_preload.... sound familiar?
