[CS3] Very Strange Hosting Problem

Hi. I've been doing basic programming for a while now, but have encountered a problem I've never seen before while launching my portfolio site. I have the site built, everything works in preview no problem, I can even publish and the .html file functions properly from the desktop, but when I upload to my actual webspace my code gets all whacked out. The buttons go all over the place, usually just ignoring stop commands and moving forward a frame, but sometimes skipping to an entirely different part of the timeline, sometimes working fine, sometimes not working at all. There doesn't appear to be any rhyme or reason to it, and I don't know how uploading the files could jack with embedded code anyway.

Has anyone else ever seen this? I host through GoDaddy if that helps.

I've never had trouble when uploading a site, but rather on my load drive. Usually it's something like a few lines of code conflicting with each other. Or you might not have your hierarchy correct when you upload it. Everything has to be kept the same, pathing, folders, etc. Can you post a link to the sample site for us to see?

I hosted it at www.stevebartel.com/dummy in case anyone wants to take a look. The buttons go haywire for the first few clicks, then they straighten themselves out and function normally after a while. This blows my mind.

I took at look at it and honestly I didn't have any trouble. The only thing was the rollovers can be poppy but other thank that work just fine for me. And I didn't think that was due to scripting, probably just how you have your button rollover area set up. What do the buttons do when they go haywire?

I'm not having any trouble either now. I didn't republish or rehost after determining it still wasn't working this morning, and now it seems to have fixed itself. I think I somehow opened a portal into Flash Bizarro World, but whatever it was is gone now so no complaints here.

I know what you mean by "poppy," I don't like it either but fixing its a little beyond what I am capable of right now. Haven't really graduated into writing a lot of AS yet.

your portal to Flash Bizarro World may have only been your browser causing all the problems. When you tested it locally a lot of stuff gets loaded in to the cache then when you went to the live web site it called for something and the stupid browser looked in its cache first found what it needed and used it instead of going to the site to getting it and the portal was opened.
The following day the cache was either cleared automatically or it saw that it was already a day old and asked for what it needed from the web site and everything worked as it was designed to.

I rehosted to my actual site and the same madness is happening again. Its been sitting for over 24 hours this time and hasent reset itself. I'll give it a little longer, but is there a way to ensure other viewers don't have this cache problem (most come from Safari or Firefox)?

In theory your average visitor to your web site would not be trying out this web site on there local machine then transferring over to the live web site to try it again.

I just visited the web site and every thing seem to be functioning properly admittedly I did not view every photo but all the buttons on the bottom of the page worked.

I've tried accessing the site from different ISPs and the buttons are still misdirecting on other computers. Most of them just move frame-by-frame through the timeline rather than go where they're told.

The html file still works fine off the desktop, something gets changed when its hosted.
