    hi,

    Flash 5

my stage is 800x600 - black

the first layer - is a picture I want to use for a background
I want the image to take up the whole area.
but it always gets cropped so I see black border on the top and the side.

I even moved a part of the image off stage but no luck, it still get's cropped.

is it possible to use a background (full bleed) in flash or do I have to use a html editor?

thanks, I can't figure this out.
I have managed to learn preloaders, buttons, mc etc.
but this has got me puzzled

hey, are you previewing the movie in flash...or are you exporting it first because if you are previewing it in flash it will not show the full dimensions of the movie until you export it or play the swf in the flash standalone player...

gparis, I will get back to you on that.
i'm at my day job, right now

    crapshoot70,
I have done it both ways. previewed and uploaded the swf file
    and still the same problem.

here's an example of what I mean it's not a background
but the "circle" should occupy that whole area top left.
but it's being cropped on the top and side.
this happens to every image - I place on the stage.

    sample

this is what i mean by full bleed the background is covering the entire page. click on enter

    sample2

I noticed in sly's site a new window open and the browser
buttons are gone I don't want the same effect. I'm wondering if this the only way to have a b.g. take up the entire page?

I think I see what you mean. You should use framesets to embed your swf into the html. The "bleed" you are talking about is a term used with Photoshop. with Flash we'd say "borders" i saw you have all margins at 0 but it's not enough. Framesets allow you to use the whole page area, without these annoying "borders". You might want to go take a look at Colin Moock site. It's an amazing resource place. here's a link towards that specific problem (check solution2> framesets): http://colinmoock.iceinc.com/webdesi...thewindow.html
    hope this helps
