ever had a Compact Flash card just die on you?

Got a Lexar 1gig CF card, was copying some files, copied them all ok but next time I started the machine and went to access them it kept saying its couldn't recognise any card.

Tried it in several other machines and zilch, cant even reformat it as its not even recognised.

It hasn't been dropped, smacked, heated or anything like that, is it possible for one of these cards to screw up for no apparent reason?

Dont suppose theres any recovery gadget out there that can fix it?

yep. it was a lexar 512mb CF card. also, a 340mb IBM Microdrive. Both died, no reasons, no droppage, nothing.

Dead when they decided to die.

Oh jeez, don't tell me that. I just laid down 20 big ones ($20) on a Lexar 512 Type I Compact Flash card.

ME TOO! I was hoping for a tasty snack...but sadly all I got was a weird smell for a week.

And never told him about it.
