[F8] loss of gradient from Illustrator to Flash
Hi i've done up a vector image of a plane with alot of gradient fills on different parts of it.
I exported this vector file to swf format and then opened it in Flash 8, discovered that the entire plane came out in large 'mosaic' form!
E.g. the body of the plane is now one huge rectangular shape. All the form is lost and so are the gradient.
Does this mean Flash can't handle imported vectors with gradient?
Can someone suggest how can i fix it?
I do need the vector image in Flash cos i need to animate it.
Your help is much appreciated!

I am not sure but Illustrator has some gradient tools that are very unique on the market neither Corel, Xara, Freehand,... do have anything simlar. It´s called meshing technique but I dont know if you used that- becuase that´s certainly not supported by flash either.
I know that freehand converted the gradients in vector stribes with different solid fills. Anyway have you tested the reverse order?- creating a gradient fill in Flash and import it into illustrator- if it works try modifying it a little in illustrator and get it back.
Otherwise I fear that it is incompatible

hiya!
yes i did use gradient mesh...so that's the problem....
i can't do the gradient thing in flash cos it's tool is just not as good as AI's.
guess i'll have to export as PNG then.
thanks for the advice - it sure saves me alot of time trying to get it to work.

well if you export and it gets pixly- it means that illustrator already converted for you to a bitmap (like PNG). The resolution however depends on your document DPI settings- so if you increase that number the resolution will increase -> but for screen work better export as PNG just like you said.
Meshing in Illustrator is not a gradient,- it´s rather a propritary technology by illustrator that causes many designers headaches because the other well known apllications can´t handle it (inDesign does but that´s a different story)

hopefully this can be worked out in the next release of flash...

I doubt that it will run performance wise but maybe with the current bitmap Caching property when used in AS
