Apollo Namesake :: Shiggles and Gits...

So, Mike Chambers is quoted as saying: "'Apollo' is not the final name, it's just the codeword..."

So what say you lot? What should the "final name" actually be??

I actually like the name Apollo, as well as the looks of the icon... -->

I doubt they'll keep the name, which is a shame.

Just hope they don't call it Flex Extended Desktop or something... I swear I ran across something like that as a suggestion on some site.

Seems there are rights issues with Apollo but they said way back at ApolloCamp that the new name is "cool". Can't even guess with that as a hint

Thanks for getting this ingrained in my bean. I just fell asleep in my chair (in front of the pute of course) and dreamed they named it Adobe Desktop. I think I mixed some of Gerbs suggestion and the friggin company name in some twisted cocktail and was just about to attend the press announcement when my legs fell off the desk and woke me up

What i find interesting thing is M$ and Sun have gone ahead and announced (Silverlight and JavaFX respectively) while Adobe are practically in the ring, pulling punches, but still wearing a cape with a big question-mark on their back. To be honest, the longer this drags out the more stupid it's gonna look.

Althou they say they have settled on a name already, and the rights to that name need to be secured (allthewhile keeping it secret), how long can they comfortably leave this hanging? Meanwhile, they have pretty much ruled out the possibility of securring the rights to Apollo thru negotiation, but as this pre-launch codename becomes ever more cemented into the public's mind, the delay might well backfire.

So tell us EVP, how hard was the decision to launch Apolloport.com not knowing when the name will be announced? Won't any subsequent name mess you up? (AIRport/Spaceport analogy notwithstanding)

As to the namesake in question, we can only remain hopeful that Adobe (ex-Macromedians) nail the actual lift-off as they have with most previous launches.

Good point. Makes one wonder if this upcoming next build will have that squared away. Like you...I would think although it's only a name...at this point there is a lot of recognition for Apollo about to become moot and as far as that aspect they will start all over again (and gain a few cheap shots either way because of it...especially from the other competitors) . With all the development going into this I would hope it's proirity one

perhaps this is a ploy, and they really plan to call it Central 2.0
