IP/State look-up table?
Is there a feed, service..whatever, something that can tell you the state of the IP that is coming to your 'project/site/flash application'?
whether this is a DB of data..some free look-up table service...etc.. any ideas appreciated.. thanks

Assuming you're not just looking for analytics data which maps your history, there are a few but it's expensive. They basically give you a look up string you can use in your site and you pay by the number of queries you make. Google has an api for one but you cannot use it for commercial apps. I'll try to remember the one I tried out.
edit: found it http://www.maxmind.com/app/worldcities

funny.. maxmind was the link I had briefly looked over and saw something like $370 jump out at me.. (which prompted me to post)...
how easy is it to use? (was it) also.. you got a link for the freebie google one? wouldnt be bad to use for testing..and if it was a 'success' then go to a PAY FOR service. Thanks

Here's one that's even cheaper: link. I was looking for the same thing a month or two ago so I'll see if I saved links anywhere. What I found was that the vague ip to country databases were the free ones, but if you wanted specifics like a state or city, it cost a lot.

The two types of services I found were look up and log file. The cheaper ones just give you a huge file once a month.
It's been a while but I think we were planning on utilizing the google maps api. We didn't research it once we found you can't profit from it. http://www.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/ |
