New heatsink

I had some money to spend at amazon (gift certificate), so I got a new heatsink

There were cooler models, but the layout of my mobo doesn't give too much space for a big heatsink. This one is supposed to be small. I just got tired of my pc sounding like an industrial vacuum machine.

So, was it a good buy? it seems Zalman has some cool heatsinks.

Do you guys spend a lot of money to cool your machines?

Looks good, but I don't have much experience with this sort of thing. Are you planning on overclocking your computer?

I have this one. Cools well at very low fan speed.

does the power supply and case fan still make a lot of noise? i cant stand how loud my machine is. but, i dont want to bother with something like this if its still almost as loud due to the other fans.

power supply fan is what it is. all other fans...case, cpu, exhaust...I control through a front panel controller...I shut them all down to inaudible levels until necessary (gaming, etc.)

This is mine... keeps my processor cool and runs very quietly but might not fit in just any old case!

If you have a well ventilated case, I would recommend water cooling. I'm thinking of getting processor water cooling and then gradually doing the rest of the case.. It's just so expensive and requires good ventilation :S

I have an all copper one by them... heavy as hell; a weapon in most countries. Tamed my AthlonXP easily. Also have one for my Nvidia card... also copper.

How difficult is a water-cooling system to install? Any how-to links that are worthwhile?

Incidentally, I am not sure why you would need a well ventilated case for water cooling -- usually the radiator/reservoir is an external unit anyway. You could probably have a horribly ventilated case and reap more benefits from water cooling. To be honest, I've never understood the need for it anyway -- unless you are an overclocking-lunatic, it'll probably be overkill.

I strapped an Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64 onto my Athlon 64 per Markp's recommendation.

I need to go back in and take a fan or two out The thing sounds like I'm standing beside a 747.

nah, i just want a silent machine. I would take the heatsink off my pc, but I guess it'd last 1 second without one

I guess it must be the heatsink. I have another P4 with a similar setup, less ram, but an older mainboard, and that one hardly makes noise.

Google's ads are on the right side of the page. Not in the results. I dunno why people are trying to make Google sound like it's turning ad-evil like the rest of the web lately. I use it many times a day, daily, and haven't had any ad-infested experiences.

Not all links contain information. Some are indeed ad-farms.

However... as far as water-cooling goes... I'd say don't use it unless you have a CPU that just will not cool off with copper and a good fan.

I just like the idea of a silent computer, my case although claiming to be silent (Nexus CoolBreeze) is far from "a quite rustle of leaves"

I guess good ventilation wouldn't matter if the radiator was external, but I thought you kept it in the case. Miss informed, sorry!
