Hi. I'm new to 3dFA and flash in general, but really like 3dFA compared to the other products I've looked at. My question: I get some weird effects working with the edit box in 3.51. I'm trying to use it as a "scorekeeper," but when I place the results from the edit box using the "place element" event, it seems to slide around to different positions (nearby) on the screen, even though I'm using "place element," not "show element w/ transition," etc. What's going on? I also sometimes get other weird artifacts when exporting to .swf and testing in IE 5.5 (no sound, other motions of edit box, etc.).
Thanks for any help!

Never seen this problem, however I don't think I've ever used PLACE ELEMENT. The sound thing happens with some sound cards becasuse 3dfa still has control of the sound. To test close 3dfa and then reload the swf into your browser, sound should be there. (happens to me sometimes)
I think you may be misusing the place element. To show score in the editbox just assign the new value to the varible and the editbox will update itself.
Example of adding to a score in editbox is here
http://deadyeti.com/blanius/scorce.html
Source for example is

I'd be happy to look at your source and give specific advice just email it to mailto:[email protected]

Thanks. Since posting my question, I came up with a solution. Rather than just placing the edit box as an element, I decided to try using the set property/ show element action, and voila! - problem solved. For some reason, my placement of it as an element in one key frame was interfering with its behavior in earlier key frames. I will try the sound element again, and close 3dfa before trying in the browser.

Whoops! I think you mean http://deadyeti.com/blanius/score.html and
http://deadyeti.com/blanius/score.movie.
I wasn't having any problem getting the score variable to show in the box, but rather getting it to stay in the right place on the screen. So I set the x- and y-position properties for the edit box in the key frame where I wanted it to appear, and that solved the "wiggly" problem.
