I submitted inko for Macromedia Site of the day.

Email recieved about 5 mins later:
Thank you for your submission to Macromedia Site of the Day. Unfortunately, we do not feature portfolio sites in Site of the Day, but projects that you create for clients are eligible. I encourage you to submit client work directly.

    Thanks.

    My reply
Maybe my chosen words for a description were not something you liked, but regardless I've taken the liberty of listing all company sites created for themselves that you have featured for site of the day. Please spare me that you will not accept my site because of its content while you accept others of similar nature.

    http://www.idsociety.com/
    http://www.juxtinteractive.com/
    http://www.wddg.com/
    http://www.gmunk.com/
    http://www.sourcedesign.co.uk/
    http://www.amphiongroup.com/
    http://www.waxdigital.com/
    http://www.nfusegfx.com/

And looking in the rules for submission:

    - All work must be original (no plagiarized images, text, or other content).
    - Designers/Developers used at least one Macromedia product to create the site.
    - The site functions in most browsers (recent versions of IE and Netscape) and on both Mac OS and Windows.
    - The site should be distinctive. This can mean interesting or unusual content, a particularly beautiful piece of design, exquisite technological engineering—or something that just makes us laugh out loud or knocks our socks off.
    - No pornography.

There is nothing written of portfolio sites not being accepted. It is my understanding that as long as a site makes use of a macromedia product, it is eligible for the site of the day no matter the type of site. If it is the case that you shy away from portfolio sites then I suggest that it be listed as a rule for submissions instead of people submitting their "portfolio" sites and not gaining any recogition.

    Dan

Basically macromedia has decided that I am not eligible for site of the day. I protested using information right from their site. do you feel my arguement is justified?

Did you read the fine print?

No one named gloomycus or dexter is eligible to enter this contest.

Seriously though, I will vote for your site if it is any conselation.

Well, the majority of those sites listed are company sites, with the exception of gmunk, as far as I can tell.
They're not individual portfolios of freelance work, they're the sites of companies with an office, a team of people, etc.

I think you know what I mean, but I still do question their terms a little bit.

macromedia have probably put these sites as sites of the day without them being submitted because most of them are famous flash sites, they are receiving lots of hits.

what if you submitted and they had not got back to you or told you your site wasn't good enough, would you still be moaning now ?

They owe you nothing, Its their site of the day awards and if they are not willing to give it you for one reason or another, thats their perogative.

Another Macromedia flame war is not needed.

That's a good point made by Bruce, perhaps they didn't think your site was good enough and were trying to let you down gently.

inko is not a personal portfolio site. its a company i work for. if i had recieved no reply, then i wouldn't have anything to argue over, and it probably would have been in their best intrests that they didn't reply. what steamed me was their reply deeming inko as a "portfolio site", which although it does include a portfolio, is not a "portfolio site."

fair enough, send an email back explaining before you compain about them on a public site. When I first saw your site, I thought it was a portfolio site too so explain to them and they may reconsider.

why are you so militant about your site being Site of the Day?

you've submitted it here, and even talked down about about sites when yours wasn't picked here, now Macromedia.

if I need to jog your memory, I'll find the posts later. if I remember correctly, you even had choice words for the web admin here. go figure.

I think Bruce said it best. They owe you nothing... well founded argument or not.

lemme guess. you still arguing about that one time in 3rd grade you were not picked to be on a team too, eh?

I misword things a lot, especially when I get angry. I had meant that they reconsider my site on the basis that my site is of similar nature of previous award winners and if they still do not consider "portfolio sites" that they have something saying that they dont.
