AUTOSTART IN MACINTOSH

This has been put into the Newbies and Mac forum.

I read how to autostart a pc flash file.

How do I autostart a macintosh flash file?!

Toast should be your best friend for this...
If you choose "Mac Volume" from the other list, and then click the select button, there is a text field to fill in what file you want to autostart.

Thanks, but I did not realise that in the Mac FAQ, there is a small tutorial on creating an autorun hybrid cd, which is just what I wanted to do!

I also found the tutorial on creating an autorun hybrid cd helpful, BUT it called for Toast for Mac and I am working on a PC...does anyone know if there is any way around this??

Im not so sure but, as I need at least 100 (to distribute at my end of year show), the copying company Ill use can make a hybrid auto run cd. They need a mac and pc version, which isnt hard to give (publish preferences), but it seems easy enough. Ill have to find what they use but it can be done.

Thanks...as an alternative, I have sent my PC files to a Mac friend who is trying to burn the hybrid cd (using the tutorial)...hopefully I can use this master hybrid cd to burn subsequent copies...I'll let you know if it works.

Try MacImage at http://www.macdisk.com . I haven't tried it yet but it seems pretty intuitive, has great web page with lot of information about Mac-PC data transfer - compatibility issues, low price and demo version allows you to make CD Rom of 100 MB if less than 100 files or 50 MB if more than 100 files.

Well, now I did try it, and it WORKS!!!

I managed to get everything working with MacImage from the very first try (I don't know if I should be proud of myself or program - that was my first hybrid CD), PC users see only PC files, Mac users only those for them (even though you can make files visible for both if you want), projector and autorun work on both platforms, and all was done in less than 15 minutes. As I said before, web page ( http://www.macdisk.com ) is full of helpfull informations and support is good too (they answered my mail inquiring about certain feature in less then a day). I realy recommend this program for all PC flashers who want to burn hybrid CD.

FAQ thread on Macintosh forum ( http://board.flashkit.com/board/show...5&pagenumber=1 ) points to another program - CDEverywhere ( http://www.cdeverywhere.com ) . I visited their web and it looked like pretty mighty application, but I didn't try it for a couple of reasons: MacImage is smaller - 2.3Mb vs. 22.3MB of CDEverywhere, demo version of CDEverywhere creates a .txt file in the root directory explaining that CD was created with a trial version (no such feature on MacImage), and last but not least, considering a possible purchase there was a price factor - MacImage costs only 60$ (63euro) vs. 200$ of CDEverywhere.

I am not saying that CDEverywhere is not good, it actualy might have other more powerfull features which I as a newbie didn't see/understand. I only want to say that for a small/no comercial projects MacImage allows to have professionaly looking cross-platform CD with Flash presentation at virtualy no cost, and that I will defintely consider bying it in the future.

I looked into hybrid burning software for PC's a while ago and ended up buying an old mac to do it.

No matter how great the software is, you still need to test it on a mac and Im not sure if the new version of software supports this yet but you can't create/change mac icons on the PC.

You can pick up old 7600 or a beige G3 for really cheap ('cause their beige!) & I bought an external case for my SCSI burner from my PC. It works out more expensive than the software but I managed to cover the costs with my first cross platform CD project.

Also, I can now test web sites with mac web browsers!

I have to agree. I tried the software as well. It worked well, though I felt I was working in the blind. I still ended up testing it on a mac anyway, and found there were some targeting issues. Long story short, next time I will cut out the middle man and go straight to the mac and Toast for my hybrid cd's...it's more direct. But thanks DD666 for the suggestion.
