Hello, I work with both mac and pc and I know how to format my harddrive for my PC but do not know how to do this in mac.. I know macs fairly well, been working with them for about 6 years. I've had my mac G4 for since May 2001. Please help.

B4 formatting make sure you´ve backupped everything important! :D

If you have only one Harddisk installed, you need to boot from the "Software Installation" CD your G4 was shipped with:
- insert the CD
- choose menu "special/restart"
- hold the "c" key till "welcome" message appears
(the desktop background changes to "CD"s when booted from CD)

Open the CD and open the folder with the helpers applications (don´t know the right english term).
Start the Application "DriveSetup".
Select the HD you want to format in the list.
Click on "format"
You may have to confirm again.

In the Application menu you can also set some options for formatting and partitioning.

After formatting you have to reinstall OS9 from the CD, of course!
