i am recording some voice instructions in soundedit 16 version 2. when i finish, i will export (save as) to aiff. i have a lot of short (10 second) instructions for various parts of the flash file. should i convert the audio into an mp3 or some other format besides aiff before bringing it into flash or does the flash compression take care of everything anyway? i just want the file size to stay as small as possible. thanks in advance.

I've done countless test on sound, and I found if you leave the audio in aif stereo and 44100 kHz the audio when exported from flash as a mp3 will sound the clearest.

I agree. Is better to export a nice sound to Flash.
You could always set the sound exports setting afterwords in Flash to the smallest you want. And is you change your mind you don't have to get a better sound, just make better your sound settings.
