I have an idea for a battle, and want to know if there would be support behind it if we started it. My idea is that we have a pixel battle, where we all add our pieces together to form a giant isometric pixel neighboorhood. Let's say we start with a street and issue people properties and we can merge them together. It'd be the city of FK.

ViRGo_RK
10-08-2002, 06:09 PM
Awsome idea! Can I have the Domo factory?

Or maybe the Three-legged antelope ranch...

ViRGo_RK
10-08-2002, 06:11 PM
Maybe we can even turn it into something interactive, like they click on it, so you have to design an outside AND inside....

killabry
10-08-2002, 06:24 PM
virgo, the more complicated we make it, the more likely it is gonna get little support. I say we need to pick a style first, so all things are the same style.

Ian424

i suggest using a 2x1 grid for the angles, so a straight, nonvertical line in a regular direction would be 2 pixels across for every pixel down.

also, specifications of pavement/grass colors should be set up now. (as well as someone making some sort of standard things on a street, mailboxes streelights etc)

ViRGo_RK
10-08-2002, 08:38 PM
Yea, complication would turn people off...

I like the 2:1 idea....

It works good.

Give us a size-template... I guess the height doesn't matter too much, but we should probably all conform to a set 'ground-area'.

ViRGo_RK

Well, I think first you should set the size of a pixel.

Well, I only posted this as an idea. I'm not much of a leader, and am way too way too inexperienced in pixel art. I'll try to get this thing off the ground though, but if anyone else wants to create the virtual land first, then divide into properties, go for it.

herr_dada
10-09-2002, 11:12 PM
i am also very fresh in pixel art, but I'm willing to give it a try. but first we need to establish some rules. how many land plots? land plot = one person? if so is that plot rotative or it always belongs to someone? is the plot assigned by a mod or something? can we be dump from the plot? whats the size of the neighbourhood (in pxs)? should it be some sort of character template, so that ppl in the whole image, dont look misplaced? should the previous posts be edited so we dont get to look at the same plots over and over again, while it's being constructed? any thoughts or ideas?

kony2003
10-09-2002, 11:29 PM
yea i think sum1 should create templates(very basic) of the charaters and/or houses, then u can post the files up and the participants can edit how they wish...jus so we can get a basic idea of how everything would look, so no1 goes over board or way off topic on the designs.
like we can add more stuff to the basic houses...

LOL...would be funny to have a darkside of the town for WH

ViRGo_RK
10-10-2002, 07:45 AM
Do you meen darkside like thugs and bandits? ;)

I love this idea.....

I think we were saying you get as much land as decided, and you can do what ever you want to that alotted amount of pixels. Is this correct?

jamiewi
10-10-2002, 08:10 AM
OK... in the words of the obese junkie king himself... we need a little less conversation, a little more action.

How's this for a plot template?

http://www.rocket.co.uk/jam/plot.gif

Feel free to change it, but until somebody comes up with somethin' better let's roll with this size.

I'm gonna start on my arichtectural masterpiece as soon as I get a chance... let's see some entries!

We can worry about people and stuff (to keep the look consistent) later. We'll never get anywhere if we worry about that to start with.

killabry

we can make it 1024x768. Everything can be divisible by 8 then.

Someone should make a model person and then that can be the scale for us.

personally, I dont agree with it. the ppl would be very nice, to know what scale to work on. the same happens when you conceive an architecture project in RL. we must decide aswell if we use ppl at all, I've been checking some pixel related sites and some dont even use ppl! (i would vote with ppl though)

Hmmmm.... the template is a bit too small.. I think I can fit one building only... darn... and there is going to be a bit less details on them.. hmmm... Dunno... I think it should be a bit bigger. If we keep it that way, people will be 2x2pixels and thats a bit small. Dunno, just a thought...

Just to get an idea.. if you see this web page, check out the building size more or less...

I say we use the diamond shape, posted earlier, as a square on the grid, as long ans our biuldings or whatever fit into an proper number of these, ie.1,2,3,4...not 1.5, 2.9.... then they can be as large as we want, but to make it easy to see we show keep the grid lines on it :), like in my huge lab:
http://aim2win.bizland.com/okideas/lab2.gif

Then we just get someone to piece it all together at the end :).

Oh and its easiest in photoshop... just use the line tool, switch off Antialised, then hold shift when you draw a line. That keeps the perspective.

Simple! Now which way do the shadows lie? :D

ViRGo_RK

Go explain it to the people over at the design and grapics forum.

People have to work, and work means time taken out of a day, and that means no time for fun. And pixeling needs a lot of time. Just keep bumping it up, eventually it will turn out big over a long period of time.

The best 2 tools (IMHO) for pixel art are Deluxe Paint II and ProMotion.
Yep...I know DPaint was on the Amiga but theres a PC version too, but for some obscure reason it can only be installed from 3 floppies.

DPaint is pretty hard to find these days but beats the pants off Photoshop for pixelproduction. It has a successor of sorts in the form of ProMotion (http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion/).

A Demo can be found here:http://www.cosmigo.com/promotion/downloads.html
Hope this was of some help..

By hand. In DPaint/ProMotion you go zoom real close and paint them pixel for pixel. It's time consuming but the result is worth it in the longrun.

I love pixle art.... if you want a big example of a virtual, multimedia thing go here www.*****hotel.com it mostly for teens but w/e.

it has MANY pixles. you can make your own rooms and buy furniture and stuff. You have an avetar, or little guy, and oyu walk around talking to people. there public rooms and private rooms. like swimming pool, Club, Pub, lobbys, even a theatre. check it out... it very cool.

I like the window, but it's a bit repetitive. You want to have varients. Also, I think you want to color the top.

I give it a 3 out of 5, but only for the reasons I mentioned. 7 out of ten would be more accurate.

90 out of a hundred.

shouldn't we call it pixel art exchange or something?

maybe we could have a different thread for those who just like making pixel art, and leave this one for the ppl who are using the designated plot area and scale...
although i'm not actually sure how many people are still making stuff with the original plot :/
