[edit: oops - streaming not steaming obviously! hehe]

You guys seem to be pretty well up on FCS so I'm hoping you can help!
I want to stream (pre-made) video files through flash - just like I can with mp3's. The vids will be stored on my website.

Do I need Flash Communication Server to do this or is the server aimed at live streaming only?

I have found plenty of tutorials for embedding video but none for streaming pre-made mpegs/avi/mov

I'd really appreciate some help on this. Don't know much about server-side stuff

thanks,
FB :D :D

ps If I do need a streaming server of some kind does it have to be FCS?

what I really need to know is does flashMX use open standard connection protocols (ideally RTSP or PNA)?

Flash uses a streaming protocol: RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) developed by Macromedia. It isn't open. You will need the Flash comm server to do real streaming otherwise you are stuck with progressive downloads.
