At the suggestion of several members, welcome to the first Flashkit Arena design challenge

The Flashkit Arena design challenge

The idea of the challenge is to create visually stimulating work based on a monthly theme set by the Arena moderators (myself, Aversion and Gerbs). It is open to anyone who wishes to enter and the only prize is kudos. It's good practice and we hope will be a little fun for those who are struggling to think of a theme for their work!

I'm sure we'll be able to get Mr Starkey to include the winner each month in the flashkit newsletter with a link to their work so your graphic will potentially be seen by everyone that reads the newsletter.

props to designmarathon (http://www.designmarathon.com) for the original idea

Here we go then:

The Rules

* 800*640 image size
* no image larger than 100k filesize
* .gif's, .png's and .jpg's allowed (please respect filesizes)
* images can be rotated (portrait or landscape)
* they must be based on the monthly theme set by the moderators
* each game will last approximately 1 month

On to the game without further ado, since it's not far from the end of november this months game will end on the 1st of Jan 03 so you've got a little over 5 weeks for the first round.

The Theme for November/December

Since we're a big ole design community this months theme will follow along those lines. Submissions should be based on this theme:

International Community

Please post all entries in this thread for the time being and don't be afraid to enter as many times as you want to, there are strictly speaking no prizes so it doesn't matter if you submit one or fifty entries, the aim of it to have a little fun and learn a little more about how other people and yourself design within a set theme. I'll set up a seperate thread for entries asap.

Good luck, please don't be afraid to ask questions if you're not sure about anything!

James.

how exactly does one represent international community?

....and therein lies the creative challenge :)

Things like flags, maps, round tables, people of different races etc all sprang to mind for me.

I would do one but being the judge I can guarantee I'd win too ;)

I'm not sure I should enter one :D

Don't forget folks, I've got dirt on Starkey so the winning entry should get a mention in the newsletter :)

Hm... Interesting. It seems to have a nice dark and ancient mood. However, the American flag contrasts too much with the other areas of the picture. (In my opinion that is)
By the way, are you Chinese? :D
But I like this picture as well.

OMG... so sorry dude. I didn't look at the picture carefully. I actually see it now! :D The flag actually fits quite nice! Wow, my eyes are messed up today...

Cheers!

Wow - wish I could do these (at least... not be too lazy to try :D).

Great idea. One thing : I hope you still have the PSD file for your entry ViperGeckoFreak. It should be "We are an International Community". Looks good though :)

I was looking for something to do for 10 minutes this morning so I've put all the entries on one page for your easy viewing :)

http://www.drunkfoundation.com/fkcompetition/

Judging will be by the mods (myself, Gerbs and Aversion) so there is no voting system set up :)

thanks Mizak, there have been great entries, when I put them onto the page though, I could have sworn there were more than that!

We've got the January theme already and it should create a bit more of a design challenge but it's gone quite well this month already :)
