You can. In fact there's a thread on this forum recently called "Retrieving swf files" that says how.

Oh..I didnt see that one..but that isnt good If you make a site that you worked really hard and now some one can just go in and take things off of it??

I'll tell you how:
First you need a program that will download a file from any location such as Gozilla (http://www.gozilla.com). Then view the source code of http://www.redhotchilipeppers.com. The location of the intro is http://www.redhotchilipeppers.com/rockinflashapotamus/support.swf. Open gozilla and click get file. The address is http://www.redhotchilipeppers.com/rockinflashapotamus/support.swf. Then you have the SWF file on your computer.

Actually it's very easy as I have a huge collection residing on my hard drive.... I just use them for inspiration and so I don't have to log on to the internet every time I want to play a game....

No need for special software.... by the very way the internet works it's built in.. what do I mean you ask??? Go to a page where it takes a month to download something...lol then when it's finished and your playing that awesome game it took a month to download... exit that page.... then open that page again and bam! no need to wait another month... why?? because your not downloading the movie from the net this time but rather from your hardrive....!!!! Now where do these movie hide on your hardrive??? I can tell you this their there and very easy to find if you know where to look..... I'll give you a hint.... There in a subdirectory of the windows folder... just don't tell anyone o.k.....lol

So all those games you see and those cute cartoons, intro movies and everthing else swf you can store, store, store until you have filled your 60 gig hardrive full of stuff.... I must have at least 700 different games, a 1000 preloaders or so, over 1600 complete websites all done in Flash... and about 5000 in my misc section tons of inspiration ready at a moments notice about got my 40 gig drive stuff to the max... Good thing it's my data drive as I have another 60 gig to fill up... Why have all these files??? again inspiration and the ability to view at a later date in case they should go by, by....

Need more help finding those pesky swf'ers just let me know I'll track'em down for ya...... Kevin

All you have to do is a search for all swf or fla files on your hard drive...all of them files were downloaded when you were viewing the website and is sitting in your browser cache.... :)

This is how I would do it:

Go to the site that you want, then go to "View" on the menu bar of the browser and go "Source", then locate the address where the .swf is at.

Copy the address and go to a text editor or .html editor and paste the address in .html link and then save as "whatever.html" and click on it, it will open in the browser.

Then right click on the link and go "Save Taget As..." and choose where you want to save the .swf file.

I know it is a long process, but it works, Hope that helps.

About the SWFs on you HD,

This method works a lot faster but some sites have META tags which restrict SWF caching. But most don't.

If you use windows98 or higher, there is an folder with the name----"Temporary Internet Files".Then you can copy the *.swf file out and paste anywhere, thus you have downloaded it!
