Okay I'll get you some resources;

First you may want this- Its MIDINight Express- It is freeware and among other things can convert MIDI to Wave http://www.polyhedric.com/software/mn/

Then youl want some MIDI's. Here are links:

you can embedd Midi's into your HTML with this tag

<EMBED SRC="mymidi.midi" AUTOSTART=true
VOLUME=50 HIDDEN=TRUE>

*replace my midi with the URL of the MIDI

I'm looking for some free midi's, if I could please.

Could I not do it this way also?
<bg sound="blahblah.mid" loop="-1">

I have done it before with wav & seen it done with midi's.

I plan on using midi's & wav & maybe mp3 later. I have used the bg sound & it worked using a wav file. Problem, it didn't work with NN. I tried your tag with a wav file. Problem it didn't work with IE or NN. Maybe your code is only for midi's?? What do you think?

By the way...Why has my 'posts' number gone back down to 7? Just kinda weird, wouldn't you say?

The Second link in the MIDI and the Anime MIDI Links are Free I think. Yes- that should work also.

Your post count goes down when threads are pruned or deleated.

The tag should work with wavs- I test it again.

I tested the embed src tag. It works with wavs also. You need to make sure you have the URL correct.

I appreciate your assistance very much. It does work. I entered Loop into it. It seems to loop correctly in NN, but it loops infinetly in IE?? Can't understand why. I have just got a midi, so I will test it now, but it worked in both with wav.
I think it did not work in NN the first time is because my NN seems to be corrupt. I had to log off win & relog on. I don't really want to re-install windows just to fix it, but it crashes a few times everyday. I re-installed & upgraded to the 4.75 NN, but it still does. Don't know why.

Thanks Again!!

Upgrade to NN6. They fixed a lot of bugs in NN 4X in the new version. They also scrapped the whole rendering engine.

Anyone know a good wave compression(free) that doesn't distort the sound to much when compressing? I have looked and can't seem to find one, and Johnie could you explain how levels work, I seem to be having difficulty. What I want to do, is to be able to load and play my sounds at certain points without losing there quality, and because of the file size limit, I can't seem to do it. I thought levels might be the solution. Could you do a quick explanation on how it works.

How come no one is responding to the banner contest:(

Levels work just like layers sorta. What you do is load your sound into a higher level. Your sound swf will have the play movie action in it as the first frame. Your movie itself will load the SWF and stop the movie all on the same frame. When it loads your sound SWF it should start the movie.

The lower level then, if I remeber right- and I've done this 1 time so that I could play a Swish movie in the background, becomes the background for the next movie.

Maybe Rich will know a better way to make a preloader?

Someone suggested that I use Goldwave for compression without distortion- try it. Remember when though that when you change sampling rate or depth their is always going to be some change in quality.

I'm still figuring out the whole sound-software thing, but I have used Goldwave and I like it. I've used Anvil Studio to make a midi, Timidity to convert it to a .wav, and then Goldwave to trim it up and make a loop out of it. One thing I haven't figured out is how to actually get different voices to work in the midi construction stage. I suspect that maybe the freeware version lacks some capabilities I could get by buying the full version of Anvil Studio, but I'm not sure enough of that to actually purchase it yet.

MIDINight Express will convert if you have the correct PRG files- unfourtanatly you have get Wavemaker to get those.

If you're handy with DOS (which I'm not, really) Timidity has a ton of those PRG files that come with it for free. I use the GUI version, which is less powerful, but the DOS version is supposed to be very good. I guess I'll have to brush up on my DOS after all.

I'll look into that. I wanted to convert a midi of voices to use in the Hour of Flash Competition. I spent most of the hour fiddling with MIDINight Express though-

Did you enter?

Although I did post at the Coffee Lounge that third party product users should be allowed in, I did not enter this time. There are still some KM skills that I need to work on. I'm also working on my animation (i.e. drawing) skills. And, in between all that, I've actually got three commercial websites to build. So I wimped out and didn't enter this one.

Maybe next time.

It's hard. You only have an hour. Drawing skills are not really all that important. This is what I threw together.

Perhaps Richard W or Brad will compete in the next one becuase I'm sure they could do better than that.

I found a really great free audio program, ProTools(its a professional sound editing program), I have only dabbled in sound myself, I know of GoldWave, but I didn't really like it, maybe I should give it another chance.

heres the protools url-

Thanks Johnie, I have just been a little stressed the layers haven't been working out the way, I have wanted them too!!!

Yeah, I if you are trying to do what I think you are it will be very dificult becuase there is a command missing- The on frame load action.

I don't really care to load multiple SWF's into a movie- it seems sloppy to me- I'd rather just load a whiole new URL than try to mess with loading multi SWF's into one movie without that on frame load action.

Perhaps when Bob will add that action when he gets back from vacation?
