Hi I'm designing a portal site and have made it with a width of 780px.

Is this too wide for browsers uding 800x600?
I have noticed most people use 768 or lower for that resolution.

Will the scroller appear on 780px, I have made a test and it seems ok but will like to make sure I'm on the right track.

Any experiences ? Guide ?

768 seems about right i would say, im using 700 and that has a bit of room between the sides of the page and the edges of tha browser. i wudnt go over 768 just to be safe :)

Yeah, I have read that is the case 768.
I also found this chart browser canvas chart (http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey/99/41/index3a_page2.html?tw=design)

Thank you. I think I will stay with your advice to be safe.

You should try your site with different browsers to test for code errors anyway, while you're doing that take a look for the scrollbar, there might be a particular browser with wide chrome but I don't think I've seen one. I usually use a max of 740, I think people just like a bit of space around it.
