What does "user art interface" mean specifically?

Hi,

sorry i was pretty damn vague with that initial one, basically im trying to make an interface which lets people draw, in a similar way to how you draw with brush tool in flash, and i wanted to make the drawing co operative so that others could add to the picture. failing a brush effect maybe some kind of pixel based grid drawing.

Sorry i cant really be specific, i dont know how to go abou this so im limited ideas wise until i know what can be done. Thanks for the reply though, much appreciated :)

Cheers

You will probably find paintboxes in the Movies section.
http://www.flashkit.com/movies/Applications/Full_Ske-Ryan_Cam-22/index.php

To save it you need to "record" the strokes x and y position over time and save the info to a textfile ( with php or other serverside script ) so that the next person can add to it.

could u point me towards a good intro to serverside stuff to get me started on using flash with external files? I had a look at the paint box tutorial u added to ur message and found some more out about it but i need to find out about linking to external files using php etc too, do u know if its possible to have more than 1 person editing the paint canvas at once.. sharing swfs.. not sure about that...

thanks again for ur reply i relaly appreciate the assistance :)

I know there are some utilities that can make images out of swf files and save these, but I have no links unfotunately, you can try a search for swf2jpg for intance here on the board and Google.

The alternative would be to "recorde" the strokes positions and save that to a textfile. A databas would be able to remeber a lot of different users attempts, and it does not matter if many people edit the Flash file at the same time.

You can probably do it with straight textfiles as well, if you create a new textfile for every user.

Heres a tutorial how to save dynamic data with php.

Some good tutorials here; http://www.kirupa.com/developer/index.htm
(some from as forum regular Senocular)

Also, you might want to (politely) look up psychlonex (a mod here), he's done a lot of stuff with Flash Comms Server in this sort of field.
